There are various ways to classify rollers.
By transmission method:
Drive roller: Actively rotates, driving the conveyor belt or other materials in motion.
Driven roller: Rotates passively, turning in response to the movement of the conveyor belt or other materials.
Classified by functional use:
Electric drum: Integrates the drum body with the transmission unit into a single compact assembly, simultaneously serving both as the driving mechanism and as a device that changes the direction of belt winding. It is primarily used in stationary and mobile belt conveyors, replacing conventional separate drive systems—such as traditional electric motors and gear reducers—that are typically mounted separately from the drive drum.
Transmission roller: Also known as the drive roller, it is primarily located at the head or middle section of the conveyor. Its main function is to transfer the motor's power to the conveyor belt, thereby ensuring the smooth operation of the entire conveyor system.
Reversing roller: Primarily used to change the direction of the conveyor belt, enabling the belt to form a closed loop; or to press down on the conveyor belt, increasing the contact angle between the belt and the drive roller. It is typically positioned beneath the conveyor belt, running in the opposite direction to the belt’s movement.
Increasing-surface roller: This roller enlarges the wrap angle of the conveyor belt around the drive roller, thereby enhancing the friction between the drive roller and the belt. It is added specifically to increase the contact area between the drive and return rollers and the conveyor belt.
Rubber-coated rollers: Composed of a metal roller with a rubber coating, their primary functions are to protect the roller from wear, prevent the conveyor belt from slipping, and enhance operational efficiency. Some models feature a bionic herringbone-shaped ceramic coating design, which further improves friction by increasing the contact surface area, thereby effectively preventing belt misalignment.
Heating rollers, cooling rollers, take-up rollers, support rollers, and more: categorized based on specific application scenarios and functional requirements.
